Where Pee-Wee sits on the path
What Pee-Wee is
Pee-Wee is a playful introduction to focus, balance and listening, built for wiggly little bodies and short attention spans. Your child doesn’t need to know any Tae Kwon Do before the first class.
Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art. If you’ve been searching for preschool karate or martial arts, this is the class to ask about. Chung TKD teaches kids only.
What your child does in Mommy & Me
In Mommy & Me, for ages 2 to 3, a parent does the class with their child.
- An obstacle course with rock climbing, basketball hoops and a Spider-Man climb on the incline mat
- Basic punches, kicks, stretches and counting, then dodgeball at the end
- Following directions, balance and first kicks
What changes as they grow
At 3½, children move up from Mommy & Me to the independent Pee-Wee class.
At 4, the next stage is Children, for ages 4 to 6: focus, coordination and the first belts.
The road ahead: belts and testing
Ahead are nine belt colors, White to Black, a form at every step. At Chung TKD, children test for a new belt when they are ready, not on a set date.
- Families have a seat and watch.
- 9th-Dan Grandmaster Howard Chung runs and oversees every test, with an instructor helping the kids.
- Tests get progressively more demanding.
- Black belt tests are major events.
The character side
Pee-Wee starts the habits the whole path is built on: listening, following directions and focus.
Along the way, children practice standing still, listening, trying again after getting it wrong, and helping a younger student tie a belt.
- Since 19709th-Dan Grandmaster Chung has been teaching since 1970.
- ChampionsHe personally trained World Champion John Chung and World Champion Helen Chung.
- LineageHe trained in the direct lineage of Supreme Grand Master Jhoon Rhee. Jhoon Rhee is widely known as the father of American Tae Kwon Do.
- In classProfessional instructors he trained teach the classes.
